Joe Uptain President and Founder of MedCo, knows that Eagle Center for Leadership is the next step in fulfilling the company’s mission statement.

MedCo University is soaring to new heights with the addition of our new instructor Lisa Pierson.  Lisa has established high goals for future classes by enhancing the training curriculum at MedCo U.

Because of her background, Lisa was selected as our full time trainer.  Most recently, Lisa served as a Call Center Supervisor where she helped many PARs (Patient Account Resolution Specialist) to fine tune their job skills to achieve success.  During Lisa’s previous experiences in IT and Call Center Technology, she has completed numerous career development programs and taught some of those courses at other companies.  Her LEAN SIX SIGMA certification helps drive her desire for continual improvement and personal development.

Along with new PAR training, Lisa leads monthly refresher courses on areas identified by management as areas where additional training would prove beneficial.  Lisa’s passion revolves around leadership development throughout the company.  In the short time she has served as full time trainer, she has developed a leadership course beneficial to all team members at MedCo.  It’s her ultimate goal to bridge communication gaps between departments by providing insight gained through cross training exercises.

As a trainer and career development coach, Lisa utilizes a mentality of “Will vs. Skill.”The mentality of Will vs. Skill is defined as skill and willingness to complete a certain task. She uses this to measure the effectiveness of her training methods.

Utilizing her coaching skills, recent new hires have been recognized as some of the best prepared employees to reach the call center.  Lisa’s training and previous professional experience has already proven an invaluable addition to MedCo University.  Congratulations to Lisa in her new role!

Are you getting it right?

Once the most overlooked part of the revenue cycle, Pre-Registration is now one of the most important. Patient communication beforethe encounter is essential.

Does your facility:
  • Remind the patient of the appointment?
  • Verify Demographics 100% to ensure future communication?
  • Verify Insurance?
  • Communicate deductible and copay amounts expected before time of service?
  • Collect deductible and copay amounts over the phone to separate the financial aspect from the clinical to help ensure patient satisfaction?

And oh! By the way are you doing it for greater than 95% of the SDA including add-ons?

MedCo’s utilization of technology around Pre-Registration can help you answer “YES” to all of the above.  Reaching hundreds of additional patients per day, allows Pre-Registration to work the schedule 3-5 days out to personally speak with each patient before their appointment.  What does that mean for your facility?
  • Increased number of patients 100% pre-registered
  • Decrease in the number of recreates where onsite registration has to take additional time
  • Increased POS collections
  • Decreased Early Out and Bad Debt fees
  • Increased patient satisfaction by decreasing onsite paperwork
  • Increased clinical satisfaction by protecting the schedule
  • Decreased FTEs and the associated managerial headaches
  • Create a static cost per patient to register

What the fourth of july means to me

The 4th of July is the date the United States celebrates our independence. For some, this holiday is simply about a day off work, for BBQ, family, games, and fireworks. For others it is a very emotional day, as they have lost a love one or have themselves fought in combat to preserve our freedom.

For me, this day is about appreciation. Appreciation to the good Lord above for allowing me to be born in the land of the free. Appreciation for those that have given their sweat, blood, and sometimes life, so that the land of the free stays free.  Appreciation for certain freedoms that have been guarded and protected for over two hundred years -- freedoms like allowing a young man to aspire to start from nothing and build a business that has positively impacted so many lives. I appreciate the freedom that allows us to tell our kids they can be anything they set their minds to, and have that statement be true.

For me, the 4th of July also means showing respect. Respect for the hard work put in by our forefathers, for their vision and fortitude to create the greatest country on earth. Respect for Ole Glory, the stars and stripes, the symbol of our country that represents those original 13 colonies and the 50 united states of America. Respect for our national anthem, a song that stands for what we believe in and the battles it took to get where we are today.

For me, the 4th of July means dedication. It means millions of Americans dedicated to the cause of preserving the American dream and the American way of life.  Dedication to standing up for what we believe in and continually challenging our peers to go higher, farther, bigger, and smarter.

And finally, for me the 4th of July means freedom. The freedom to write this article and share it with the public. The freedom to worship as I choose. The freedom to raise my children as I see fit. The freedom to travel across our land and experience all the beautiful bodies of water, mountains, and fields it has to offer. The list of freedoms that we take for granted is a mile long. On the 4th of July, as Americans, we have the freedom to celebrate how we like, or not celebrate at all. Much bloodshed and many lives have been spent to allow us to do so, and for that we should all be much appreciative.

On the 4th of July I will be celebrating my appreciation to be an American!
